Travel and well-being: natural treatments for travel sickness
Motion sickness or kinetosis is a common disorder for some people during car, boat or train journeys. It is often associated with discomfort caused by the conflict between vision and centre of balance in part of the inner ear. Motion sickness usually manifests itself as vomiting, nausea, headache, dizziness or heart palpitations.
These symptoms seem to be very unpleasant. There are then natural methods to alleviate them and allow you to travel more peacefully.
Ginger against nausea
Ginger is one of the most effective natural products against nausea. The stimulating effects of its chemical compounds such as shogaol and gingerol reduce the functioning of the vomiting centre in the brain. If you want to try this remedy, you can choose between ginger powder or herbal tea.
For ginger powder you will need 250 mg. It is much better to consume it with yoghurt one hour before departure so that it works throughout the journey. A repeated intake of the remedy is necessary every four hours to completely eliminate the symptoms.
If you prefer it as an herbal tea, 5g of grated fresh ginger is sufficient. You simply need to infuse it in 250 ml of water for about ten minutes. You can add honey or lemon for extra flavour.
Lemon balm water against discomfort
Lemon balm is a perennial herbaceous plant that has been known for its health benefits since antiquity. After research and various analyses, researchers were able to create lemon balm water. They came up with the idea of combining 14 medicinal plants, including lemon balm with 9 spices. The preparation thus becomes a source of energy. It relieves discomfort, nervousness and the urge to vomit.
Lemon balm water is currently on sale in pharmacies and on the Internet in the form of bottles. For a glass of hot or cold water, dilute 3 teaspoons of the remedy. So don't forget to include it in your hand luggage during all your travels, even for sun and wellness holidays on VTR-voyages for example.
The virtues of mint
Mint is also an indispensable element in the fight against motion sickness. Its digestive actions prevent nausea and vomiting. To do this, you should drink a mint tea before leaving. Peppermint essential oil is also a very good alternative for your well-being during your journey.
The easiest way to use peppermint essential oil is to pour a few drops on a handkerchief and breathe it in for about ten seconds. Otherwise, you can always take it on a sugar coated with a drop of essential oil, with a lemon flavour for example.
